Foley Square

Named after the famous or infamous Tammany Hall Thomas Foley, this square is the site of the original fresh water source for early New York known as Collect Pond. Not burdened by regulations or common sense, tannery, munitions and brewery discharge flowed freely into the source until it was    the breeding ground for typhoid and cholera. Once the pond was filled in, it was the home to famous Five Point area of poor immigrant families. The place was so horrid it even shocked Charles Dickens.

Our docent showing us a map of Manhattan in 1660's ......so that's why it's called Wall Street!
Keep those buggers north of the line....out.
Buggers to be defined by anyone in opposition to those south of the wall.....
